Saligh Weaving: Lutheran Textiles from all over the Netherlands

Luther Museum Amsterdam, Nieuwe Keizersgracht 570
From 10 August 2024

Discover the meaning behind textiles from the Lutheran tradition in the summer exhibition 'Saligh Weaving' at the Luther Museum Amsterdam. The exhibition, which runs from Friday 28 June to Sunday 1 September, will present a wide range of textile works that highlight a rich tradition of faith, art and culture.

The exhibition shows altar cloths, wall hangings, carpets, antependia and stoles that highlight the rich tradition of faith, art and culture. Textile works of art that are still in use in the church almost every week, as 'living heritage'. With work by: Koen Taselaar, Wim Crouwel, Willy Pennings, Bonne Kazemier, Marja-Liisa Schepel, Folly Hemrica and Margreet Scholten.

'Saligh Weaving' shows how contemporary designs blend with age-old symbolism. This is not only visible in the specially designed communion cloth by Rotterdam artist Koen Taselaar, but also in a modern carpet from the fifties by famous graphic designer Wim Crouwel and a tapestry in the Amsterdam School style, designed in the twenties of the last century by architect Bonne Kazemier.

Discover how textiles play an important role in the story of the Lutherans in the Netherlands and beyond with this summer exhibition.
